Purple – The Hot Interior Paint Colour for 2012
There is a significant advantage in working on showhomes on a regular basis. I get insight into the latest colour trends being used by designers. This Fall, the colour trend that I can’t ignore is purple. I’ve been seeing it in accessories for the last year, but this Fall I am seeing it on walls. And I love it.
I think purple is sexy. When it is used in the right way it isn’t feminine or too girly. It works to create living rooms with a cool and modern vibe or bedrooms with a smoky and sultry feel.
Here is a sample of some of the purples I am recommending to my clients, as well as some neutrals with a purple undertone.
First on my list are the Benjamin Moore Affinity colours. There is something about the purples in the Affinity fan deck that I just love. They are rich, sophisticated and every one of them is stunning.
My three favourites are Benjamin Moore Tempest (AF-590), Benjamin Moore Kasbah (AF-640) and Benjamin Moore Wish (AF-680). Tempest is cool and I love it paired against Wish or even Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter (HC-172).
Looking for something a little more neutral? Time to look at the greys. I like Benjamin Moore Elephant Gray (2109-50) or Silver Fox (2108-50) or Benjamin Moore Escarpment (CC-518). Silver Fox is delicious and I recently used Escarpment in a dining room for an absolutely amazing effect. All three of these greys have just enough of a purple undertone to give you the perfect amount of colour.
And for those daring, dark colours try Benjamin Moore Carbon Copy (2117-10), a black with a definite purple undertone. Benjamin Moore Shadow (2117-30) is as purple as it gets but this is a dark grape colour and I saw it used in a modern white kitchen for a dramatic look. Benjamin Moore Mysterious (AF-565) has more of a blue undertone but on walls can look more purple than blue. This is a great colour that even the men like.
All seriously sexy colours, not for the faint of heart. Try these in small spaces like powder rooms or a study or even for a piece of furniture you want to stand out.
